Christmas
Celebration
December 1,
2007
10 AM –
4 PM

Join us for a holiday experience unlike any other in Durham. Only
at Historic Stagville will visitors be able to participate in the Christmas
traditions of an antebellum plantation owner's family and enslaved families.
Music, crafts and all-around family fun will make this an event to look forward
to every year!
o Start your day
at Horton Grove, formerly home to a small portion of Stagville's enslaved
population. There, costumed interpreters will take you through one of the slave
quarters and provide a glimpse of the daily life of the enslaved.
o
Check out our blacksmith and take the free wagon ride down to the
Great Barn while you're at Horton Grove.
o
At 11am and 2pm, the Jonkunnu troup performs. If you've never
heard of Jonkunnu, hold on to your seats!
á
When
you're ready, you can catch the shuttle from Horton Grove to the Bennehan Home.
The home will be resplendent in all its natural holiday decorations. Live music
will be provided by Michael Novak.
á
At
noon, there will be a demonstration on making natural holiday decorations in
the Butler's Pantry of the home.
á
Costumed
interpreters will be making fresh pressed apple cider throughout the day. A cup
of cider will go nicely with the BBQ provided by Durham's own Bullock's Barbecue.
á
And, did we mention there will be vendors at both Horton Grove,
the Bennehan Home and the Visitor's Center? Be sure to bring your holiday
shopping list!
